Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, D-Fla., is the star of a new Republican ad inspired by the "Saturday Night Live" skit, “Debbie Downer,” the Naked Politics blog of the Miami Herald reports.

Using a rewrite of the original SNL skit’s bouncy theme song, the video from Karl Rove’s American Crossroads mocks the new chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee as comically pessimistic.

The first verse goes: “You’re so happy and free/turn on cable TV/and along comes Debbie Downer/Tellin’ us all a bunch of lies/"If we save Medicare, we’ll die”/Even the press is rollin’ their eyes/That won’t stop Debbie Downer.”

accusing Republicans of endangering seniors and being nostalgiac for segregation, among other slurs.

“And we’re just beggin’/Don’t shut up please/Can’t get enough of Debbie Downer,” the song concludes to canned sitcom laughter.

A statement from Rove’s group says that the new Democratic fundraising chief “has become a gift that keeps on giving to Republicans.”
