New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has been taking on all comers with his no-nonsense approach, winning accolades from conservatives across the country, and even some Democrats in his home state, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. For example, Union City Mayor Brian Stack, an old-style Democratic politician, heaps praise on the Republican governor.

"It's my honor to introduce the greatest governor this state has ever had," Stack said when introducing the governor at a town-hall meeting in Union City.

Stack, also a state senator, is one of the Democratic powerhouses around the state who laud Christie even while he’s cutting state subsidies and angering their traditional base of public workers.

"Everybody's coming to the table, trying to expand their power base," Patrick Murray, polling director at Monmouth University, told the newspaper. "There's a power of personality with Chris Christie that really has helped him to pull in these people who have been dissatisfied within their own party."

In Newark, Christie has support from Democrats such as Mayor Cory Booker; longtime political boss Steve Adubato Sr.; and County Executive Joe DiVincenzo. In South Jersey, he has close links with Democratic boss George Norcross. And mayors from Hoboken to Woodbridge to Camden are backing Christie.
