Some political leaders only seek close relationships with other politicians who will agree with anything they say. House Speaker John Boehner isn’t one of those types, Politico reports.

Boehner has built a close group of friends who tell him the truth.

“Sometimes, he needs a friend to say that he’s wearing a blue shoe and a black shoe,” Oregon Rep. Greg Walden, who chairs Boehner’s leadership team, told the news service.

“He wants an honest assessment that is outside the political bubble.”

While there’s no formal list, “it’s clear who’s on it,” Politico states. That includes Ohio Reps. Patrick Tiberi and Steve LaTourette; golf and smoking friends Mike Simpson of Idaho and Tom Latham of Iowa; and sharp political operators Walden and Rep. Pete Sessions of Texas.
