Former Democratic N.Y. Gov. Eliot Spitzer, himself a veteran of his own sex scandal, weighed in on the sexting brouhaha surrounding Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., on his CNN show Monday.
“It was the kind of moment that neither politicians nor journalists should be proud of,” said Spitzer of Weiner’s earlier press conference, during which he admitted to intimate online activities with young women, but refused to resign. “And believe me, I know. I’ve been there, and I’ve held both jobs.”
Spitzer stepped down as governor in 2008 after revelations surfaced that he had been a robust patron of a high-priced prostitution service called Emperors Club VIP.
