Coulter: Double Standard for Conservative Women

By Hiram Reisner   |   Thursday, 30 Jun 2011 04:11 AM

Ann Coulter says the media has a double standard when it comes to conservative women, and sexism on the left is fueling claims that presidential candidate Michele Bachmann and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin don’t get along. The conservative commentator also said Wednesday on Fox News most in the mainstream media start with the premise that both women are stupid.
“They’re such sexists — they’re trying to pit Palin against Bachmann. Liberals are just so shocked that there are all these talented conservative women politicians that they think, oh, there are two girls in the race, they must hate one another,” Coulter told Fox News’ Sean Hannity. “Well, you know, there are six guys in the race — they don’t all hate one another.”

Coulter said liberals are on the hunt for conservative gaffes — particularly when uttered by women — and work their way backwards from the comments to finding fault.

“They assume that if Bachmann says something or Palin says something, it must be stupid,” Coulter said. “So, let’s hear what she said and then we’ll reason backwards and figure out how it was stupid.”

Coulter noted the recent attack on Bachmann for saying acting icon John Wayne was born in Waterloo, Iowa, when in fact he wasn’t.

“This is just a perfect example of the elitism and idiocy of the left,” Coulter said. “In small towns across America, anyone who has some slight connection — their grandparents could have passed through the area — and people say the celebrity is from that town. That’s not common in New York or Los Angeles.”

Hannity played a clip of several of President Barack Obama’s gaffes, including when he once said he visited 57 states, and one in his debt-ceiling press conference Wednesday, when he claimed his daughter, Malia, is 13 years old — who in fact until next month is still 12.

“He is articulate, he is bright — but even articulate, bright people are going to stumble now and then,” Coulter said. “It’s only in the case of a conservative that this is taken to be, you know, some reading on what their intelligence is — they must describe conservatives as idiots.”
