The conservative advocacy group Americans for Prosperity (AFP) will undertake a $9 million ad campaign against the healthcare reform law, now that the Supreme Court has voted to uphold it.

That’s what AFP President Tim Phillips told Politico. The ads are starting Wednesday afternoon and will cover broadcast television, cable, and social media in 12 presidential swing states.

The message of the ads is that President Barack Obama “owns the mandate,” and now it’s a tax, Phillips said. The Supreme Court ruled that Obamacare’s individual mandate, requiring almost all Americans to buy health insurance, counts as a tax and is thus constitutional.

“The Supreme Court has ruled, and President Obama has now given us one of the biggest tax increases in history,” Phillips said. “We’re going to remind people of the disastrous components of this legislation.”

The court decision will increase voters’ disdain for the Affordable Care Act, Phillips maintained. “I think a lot of Americans have assumed, ‘Well, the Court will do something,’ or, ‘It’s 2014, that’s so far off,’” Phillips said. “Unless there’s a big change, or unless they repeal it, it’s coming for certain.”

Many Republicans feel that the court has given them an issue they can use to bludgeon Democrats.

“This is a huge boon to the campaign of Mitt Romney,” Utah GOP Sen. Mike Lee, told Fox News. “The American people will be flocking around him saying we don’t want new taxes. We especially don’t want new taxes on the poor, and that’s what this does.”
