A 107-year-old Arkansas man who friends say was legally blind and nearly deaf was killed Saturday after he allegedly assaulted two people and then shot at the SWAT team members who responded to the incident.
Police responded to a Pine Bluff, Ark., home Saturday after receiving reports that 107-year-old Monroe Isadore had pointed a gun at two people and was holed up in a bedroom.
"He was very angry. He got hostile. He was gonna kill somebody," Isadore's roommate, Pauline Lewis, told KTHV11.com.
Lewis reportedly invited Isadore to live in her home in August. The incident Saturday began when Lewis and Isadore's daughter approached him about finding another place to stay.

"[He] was in the room and he had the gun and he said 'If you wanna live you better get away from this door.'" Lewis said.
The SWAT team approached a bedroom where Isadore was hiding and the 107-year-old man shot through the door at them, CNN reported.
After several failed negotiation attempts, the officers deployed gas and distraction devices and breached the room.
"Isadore then began to fire on the entry team and the entry team engaged Isadore, killing him," Lt. David E. Price said in a press release.
Members of the Pine Bluff community described Isadore as a church-going man who grew vegetables in his garden and gave them away to the congregation. They said he was legally blind and partially deaf.
"He couldn't hear," resident Larry Smith, who went to the same church as Isadore, told FOX16.com.
"Somebody should've told the [police] he couldn't hear."
