Despite trillions of dollars spent fighting Islamic radicals, they continue threaten our national security and international stability.
The Boston Marathon attack is a tragic reminder our vulnerability.
And we are not any closer to winning the war on terror despite resources and lives spent on the problem. We will continue on this path as long as our response focuses on addressing the symptoms (terrorism), not the disease (radicalism). Radicalism is a complex process that must be confronted psychologically and ideologically.
The IC4CR is a new initiative led by me to do what no government or private entity has even attempted — to launch a psychological and counterideological campaign to undermine the radical message, thereby decreasing the number of young Muslims attracted to radicalism and discouraging current radicals from committing future acts of terror.
The IC4CR countermessaging will employ specific and highly effective ideological, educational, and cognitive psychological tactics to strike at the mental and psychological roots of Islamic radicalization.
The center will use both social media and mass media to disseminate its message. Based in the United States, its scope will be global, with initial primary targets being Muslim youth in the Arab Islamic heartland and in English-speaking regions.
The IC4CR will target ideological and theological reforms, cognitive levels of thinking, and psychological influences aimed at deterring the terrorists from conducting their activities.
The IC4CR will define parameters for radicalism and will monitor the frequency or severity of these indicators and thereby establish a baseline for Islamic radicalism in a particular region.
My Facebook page (in Arabic), and my modern interpretation for the Koran, provides a peace-promoting commentary and understanding of the Koran. The page has garnered over 1.2 million “likes” from an Arabic-speaking audience in the few months since it began in May 2013.
The IC4CR appreciates your support for its mission to counter Islamic radicalism. For more details about the center, please visit www.IC4CR.org
