The labor strike in India last week in protest of large foreign retailers like Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT) that are looking to move into the country resembled last year’s protests. But this time, things appear to be different. The economic slowdown in India appears to have created a new political environment that will allow the government to survive the protests and finally allow Wal-Mart to open for business in one of the largest untapped markets in the world.
