Google officially began offering small businesses in the United Kingdom a credit card to use when purchasing AdWords, Google's main advertising product, according to the Financial Times.

The service, called AdWords Business Credit, was launched Monday in the United Kingdom with Barclaycard, a MasterCard-based card. Small and medium sized businesses are eligible to participate and can get credit of between $200 and $100,000 a month to pay for their use of Google's AdWords.

AdWords works by placing a company's ad next to the search results when people search on Google using a keyword selected by the company. AdWords made up the majority of Google's $37 billion in advertising revenue in 2011, the Times added.

The AdWords credit card was first introduced by Google last year in a pilot program involving around 1,400 small businesses in the United States, TechCrunch.com noted. Google said the goal of the program was to make it easier for companies to purchase and track spending for their AdWords campaigns. Nearly 75 percent of the small businesses in the pilot program now use the credit card to pay for AdWords.

“We are helping them, uniquely, with online marketing — we aren’t going into a finance business as Google,” said Francoise Brougher, vice president of sales and operations for small and medium businesses at Google, according to the Financial Times.

Google is planning to fully launch the AdWords credit card in the United States and other countries within weeks, according to the Times.
