UK's Cameron: I Have What It Takes to Fix Britain

Sunday, 28 Feb 2010 04:48 PM

Britain's main opposition leader David Cameron insists he's ready to oust Prime Minister Gordon Brown, but says a looming national election could be closer than many predict.

Cameron told a rally of his Conservative Party in Brighton, southern England, on Sunday that they face "a real fight" with the governing Labour Party.

He vowed to quickly reduce Britain's national debt, reform schools and cut immigration.

Britain must hold an election by law by June 3.

Cameron's Conservatives have led Labour in opinion polls for two years, but the gap between the parties has narrowed recently.

An Ipsos-Mori poll published last week put the Conservatives 5 percentage points ahead, down from 17 points in a survey by the same pollster in December.
