With a government shutdown, a looming debt ceiling deadline, and a steady breaking news stream of failed action in Congress, it’s been difficult to focus on anything else.
 
That may be good news for New York Giants fans enduring an 0-6 start, and bad news for the Boston Red Sox, who deserve a little more attention for the exciting postseason show they’re putting on.
 
But back in Washington, President Obama and congressional Democrats would very much like you to focus on Republicans’ tanking poll numbers so you don’t notice what else is happening outside the beltway. Because the truth is, any one of the following news items would garner a week’s worth of attention had the shutdown never happened.
