GOP Candidates Stumble Out of the Gate

Tuesday, in front of a thin crowd of about 100, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman announced with about as much excitement as you'd see in traffic court that he is running for president.

If you missed it (or slept through it) and don't know who Huntsman is, don't bother brushing up. He is a cloyingly moderate Republican and an Obama appointee to an ambassadorship in China who sounds more like Al Gore than, well, Al Gore. Needless to say, Huntsman likely won't be around very long.

But the lackluster start to his campaign — which he promises will be gentlemanly and civil (yawn again) — is good news for another former governor, Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, who has been criticized for being soft, boring, and uncharismatic. Congratulations, Pawlenty, you just got out-boring-ed.
