Despite the fact that it’s the first book to present the full story of Katie Couric and her downfall as a TV news anchor, the mainstream media have virtually ignored Ed Klein’s revelations about her in his new book, “Katie: the Real Story.”

Klein, who has written a string of New York Times best sellers, attributes the blackout to media executives’ coziness with Couric and their affinity for her liberal views.

Klein says the mainstream media behave like doctors who cover for their own. Klein’s book may be the first ever to fully probe the public and private life of a major news media figure.

“In a culture that takes the media so seriously, one of the biggest media stories of our time is how Katie Couric, the highest-paid TV news star in history, has crashed and burned as the anchor of the "’CBS Evening News,’” Klein tells me. “And yet virtually the entire mainstream media, meaning the three networks, CNN, MSNBC, and CNBC, as well as most newspapers, have ignored ‘Katie: the Real Story,’ which is the first and only portrayal of Katie Couric’s entire career.” [Get your copy of this book at a cheap price - Click Here Now.]

The fact that most executives in the mainstream media have a liberal bias makes them less willing to feature the book, Klein says.

“When CBS announced that it was appointing Katie Couric as its new evening news anchor, there were those who pointed out that they were simply replacing one transparent liberal, Dan Rather, with another,” Klein notes. “Katie has made no secret of the fact hat she is a liberal. She has called Ronald Reagan an ‘air head,’ she has marched in pro-abortion rallies with Whoopi Goldberg, and her broadcasts have been infused with the presumption that liberals are on the side of the angels and that conservatives are somehow bad people.”

Klein’s biography reveals the highest-paid TV anchor in history to be a “Jekyll and Hyde” figure.

On the one hand, she projects an image of the high school cheerleader she once was. But that masks her out-of-control ambition, her narcissism, and her inherent nastiness, qualities that have contributed to her failure as the anchor of the “CBS Evening News.” The newscast remains in third place, and Couric has lost 10 percent of the audience she inherited from Bob Schieffer, who served as a temporary anchor after Dan Rather’s abrupt departure from the network.

While Klein reports that Couric was hardworking and admirably ambitious early on in her career, over time she became a diva and the negative publicity about her tantrums and personal life began to hurt her ratings.

Despite the lack of media attention, Klein’s book will debut on the New York Times best seller list.
