Deputy national security adviser John Brennan said Osama bin Laden planned on an attack against the U.S. on the 10th anniversary of the event.

"We know from the material recovered from the Bin Laden compound that Bin Laden was looking at the 10th anniversary of 9/11 as an opportunity to strike yet again at the U.S. homeland," said Brennan on the "PBS Newshour" Wednesday night.

Brennan, the admininistration's top counterterrorism advisor, said he thinks the country is much safer than it was 10 years ago.

Brennan said he doesn't believe another attack is coming.

"I like to think that every day we're going to try to uncover any type of terrorist activity that's out there and take the steps to thwart any type of planning that might result in an attempted attack," said Brennan.
