The wait is over. The Senate has finally passed a budget by a vote of 50 to 49 without a single Republican voting in favor. Senate Budget Chairwoman Patty Murray, D-Wash., declared, “The Senate Budget takes the balanced and responsible approach to tackling our fiscal and economic challenges that the vast majority of families across the country support.”

This is like an alcoholic claiming he has a responsible approach to drinking because he balances bourbon with branch water.

The Senate budget includes $1 trillion in new taxes, yet this “balanced and responsible” approach won’t ever balance the budget. In fact, 10 years from now in 2023 the Senate budget will have a deficit of $566 billion in that year alone. Murray’s budget restores every dime of the $85 billion in sequester cuts, does not reform entitlements and actually includes more wasteful “stimulus” spending.

Contrast that with the budget the House just passed. According to The Washington Examiner, the House budget reduces spending by more than $5 trillion, slows spending growth by 2 percent and balances the budget in 10 years. It passed by a vote of 221 to 207, without a single Democrat voting in favor.

So which budget do you think is “balanced and responsible”?

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Harvey Mansfield, the Kenan professor of government at Harvard, described the Democrat party as an alliance of experts and victims. Which is the same thing as saying it’s basically a conspiracy against the taxpayer. Senate and House Democrats have no interest in balancing the budget now or in the future, because handouts and government spending are what keep them in office.

Their idea of a budget is a document that convinces China to continue loaning money to the U.S., so Democrats can continue spending. Mitt Romney was graceless when he made his 47 percent comment, but that does not make it any less accurate.

When a political party’s base is composed mainly of two groups: people who get more from the government than they pay in taxes and the government employees who distribute the goodies, there is no future in budget cuts.

For Democrats, taxpayers are just a cow that needs to be milked. This should be a disturbing thought for every voter who values liberty and limited government. The next two elections, in 2014 and 2016, will either reverse the slide into Cyprus–dom that the nation is currently on or finalize and ratify the decline.

In his WSJ interview Mansfield also said, “We have now an American political party and a European one. Not all Americans who vote for the European party want to become Europeans. But it doesn't matter because that's what they're voting for. They're voting for dependency, for lack of ambition, and for insolvency."

I could not have said it better.
