Barack Obama is another one of those leftist men of the people who are just fine with democracy as long as he gets his way. But when the ‘demo’ part of a democracy doesn’t toe the line, Obama regularly resorts to non-democratic means to enforce his will.

Congress won’t pass amnesty for illegals, so Obama stops enforcing existing law and uses executive orders to institute a quasi-amnesty.

Obama can’t get his nominations for the Labor Relations Board through the Senate, so he makes “recess appointments” when the Senate is not in recess.

And now, Obama can’t pass gun control legislation in the Democrat-dominated Senate, so he agrees to sign a United Nations gun control treaty a majority of senators have already said they will not approve.

Last week 130 members of Congress from both parties sent a letter to the administration asking them to reject this U.N. bureaucrat gun grab.

The letter stated, “As your review of the treaty continues, we strongly encourage your administration to recognize its textual, inherent, and procedural flaws, to uphold our country's constitutional protections of civilian firearms ownership, and to defend the sovereignty of the United States, and thus to decide not to sign this treaty.”

Yesterday, Secretary of State John Kerry announced the administration would sign the U.N. gun control treaty despite the opposition. “We look forward to signing it as soon as the process of conforming the official translations is completed satisfactorily,” Kerry said.

So much for the administration’s quest for “bipartisanship.”

The treaty is being pushed by the Control Arms Coalition that claims, “history will be made” when the U.N. approves the treaty because it will “protect millions living in daily fear of armed violence and at risk of rape, assault, displacement, and death.”

I’m sure the minute the treaty is approved in the world body, Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad will rush to the next police department gun buyback so he can sell the weapons he’s using to terrorize his own populace.

The treaty, according to Fox News, covers tanks, armored combat vehicles, large-caliber artillery systems, combat aircraft, attack helicopters, warships, missiles and missile launchers, and small arms and light weapons. Signing it is in keeping with Obama’s desire for unilateral disarmament: conventional arms for the people and nuclear arms for the country.

Other countries won't care about our separation of powers and the fact a treaty unratified by the Senate isn’t worth the parchment it’s printed on. To them it looks like Uncle Sam — the Great Satan — is signing and then breaking a treaty.

Obama’s display of moral hubris weakens us internationally, makes the U.S. appear hypocritical and could put U.S. citizens in violation of international law.

It’s just another arrogant display by a man who wants to appear better than the people who elected him.
