The vast majority of the fads that sweep our nation are bad.

Britney Spears’ bare–midriff tops, tattoos on women, and reality TV programs are just a few of the baleful fads that come to mind. (I was still trying to make up my mind on break–dancing when it disappeared.)

But although those violate the laws of good taste, the practices aren’t illegal. That cannot be said of "wilding," "flashgangs" (where crowds of teenagers use social media to gather inside a business and steal from overwhelmed employees) and now the "knockout game."

The knockout game is played when a group of teenagers come upon unsuspecting passersby and, without warning, punches victims in an attempt to knock them unconscious with a single blow.

It’s the perfect game for teenagers with time on their hands. It doesn’t require stadiums, expensive equipment, or rules: Just a fist, a dollop of depravity and a victim that is unaware the game is afoot. Since the players are thugs and bullies (am I being redundant?) victims have a tendency to be the elderly and female.

Cities where the pastime is particularly popular include Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York. All these cities have something else in common besides savage young people. The average citizen is essentially prohibited from carrying a concealed weapon, which leaves them at the mercy of the younger, larger, and sadistic.

But even after being attacked by reality in the form of a teenager, some liberals are incapable of coming to their own defense. A young lady from Washington recently appeared on Fox where she said, “I’ve moved past it, and I really have no hard feelings about what happened. And I just see it as another reason why we need to better support our youth … it’s great to see teenagers do incredible things when they’re supported and empowered.”

Her unprovoked attack was simply another cry for help from the marginalized. Only this time instead of his tongue, he used his fist.

This, according to G.K. Chesterton, considers lawbreaking a disease that must be treated. But few people ever volunteer to get cancer — or even the flu — yet the attacker decided of his own volition to include her in his edition of ‘knockout game.’

The story was different in Lansing, Mich. The Blaze.com reports a father was waiting for his daughter to be dropped off from school, when a 17–year–old attacked him. This was a high–tech version of the game, since the teen tried to use a Taser to knock the man out.

The father felt something jammed into his side, but instead of wishing there was a nearby social program he could direct the young man to, the father pulled out his legally concealed .40 caliber pistol and shot his attacker twice.

Now the attacker, Marvell Weaver, says, “It was just a lesson learned. I wish I hadn't played the game at all.” Weaver appears to be a slow learner, since this was the seventh time he played the "game" and it took a bullet to change his mind.

I don’t have a solution to depraved minds like Weaver’s and the other degenerates who play this "game." But I do have advice for people who prefer not to be on the receiving end. Don’t be a victim. Be aware of your surroundings and be prepared to offer a vigorous defense.

And if you live in one of those cities where the leaders don’t think you are competent to protect yourself, I have some advice: Move.
