Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s former national finance chief says she's nixed any plans to run for president in 2016.
reported Monday Paul Egerman rebuffed interested donors in the last two weeks, telling them Warren wasn't planning to challenge presumed frontrunner Hillary Clinton in a primary
-- despite heightened speculation on a run.
“It’s not gonna happen,” BuzzFeed quoted one source saying.
Warren spoke Thursday at a Democracy Alliance conference, and told Egerman she wouldn't take on Clinton, BuzzFeed reported.
Egerman, a retired software entrepreneur who calls himself an “enthusiastic supporter of Senator Elizabeth Warren” in his biography on Twitter,
is the gatekeeper between Warren and big-money donors, BuzzFeed said.
“He’s the guy to ask,” one source told the website. “The geese talk to the geese. The bears talk to the bears. And the hippos talk to the hippos.”
In an email, Egerman said he had no comment for this article.
Warren has quashed speculation before
, most recently in an interview in September.
One attendee at the Democracy Alliance conference told BuzzFeed, however, donors' focus was less on 2016 and more on next year’s races, particularly Wendy Davis’ bid for governor of Texas, and Michelle Nunn’s for U.S. Senate in Georgia.
