Democrat Elizabeth Warren has raised $16 million since last September in her bid to replace Massachusetts Republican Sen. Scott Brown, hauling in more than her rival and any of the other 1,613 candidates running for Congress.

Citing an analysis of campaign finance reports by the Center for Responsive Politics, the Boston Globe reported Friday that Warren’s fundraising prowess is tied to “the deep devotion she commands from the left flank of the Democratic Party.

According to the Globe, many of her supporters and contributors see her constant criticism of Wall Street “and her toughness as an antidote to what they see as President Obama’s tendency to compromise.”

“You don’t often hear a candidate talk that directly about taking on corporations in her stump speech,” Stephanie Taylor, cofounder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, told the Globe. The liberal group has raised more $740,000 for Warren.

Warren’s donor list includes liberal Democrats from every level of politics, the Globe noted, ranging from Hollywood celebrities and wealthy Florida retirees to small individual contributors from around the state.

But even though Warren has raised twice as much as Brown, she still trails the incumbent in available cash on hand. That’s because Brown still had $7 million left over from his   2010 special election fund to go along with the $11.9 million he has raised in total over the past two years.
