Sen. Ted Cruz said he "laughed out loud" at the depiction of a tea party senator in the popular Netflix series "House of Cards."

"I think it is a straw man, but it’s Hollywood’s portrayal of what a tea party senator would be like," the Texas Republican said Wednesday on "The Michael Berry Show."

"I have to admit I laughed out loud when I saw that," he said.

In the second season of the series, the fictional Sen. Curtis Haas appears to be patterned after tea party hero Cruz – fighting with his party’s leader, showing he isn’t afraid to shut down the government and comfortable with his reputation as a lawmaker the establishment hates.

Story continues below video.

But the fictional lawmaker’s voting record got Cruz riled.

"In the show, the character blocks entitlement reform that would strengthen Social Security and Medicare," he said. "Listen, I campaigned on entitlement reform to strengthen Social Security and Medicare, so the idea I would block that was ludicrous."

"As only Hollywood could, they can’t imagine a conservative who can count to 10," Cruz added.

But Town Hall noted Netflix got it right on another detail that makes the fictional lawmaker seem a lot like Cruz.

Haas is referred to as a "tea party bullhorn," Town Hall reported, and Time, in an article earlier this month, wrote Cruz’s "tea party megaphone gives him national reach and fundraising firepower."
