Rep. Steve King believes the Obama administration and its supporters are becoming increasingly belligerent in their approach to upholding the law.

Discussing Wednesday's standoff between House Oversight Committee's Darrell Issa and IRS chairman John Koskinen — a showdown over a subpoena from the committee that instructed the agency to turn over all emails from six IRS employees dating back to 2009 — the Iowa Republican told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV that Koskinen is unlawfully refusing to cooperate with the committee.

Koskinen told the committee it would take until 2015 to collect all of the relevant documentation because so many of the emails contain personal information of individual taxpayers, which the Oversight committee is legally barred from seeing.

Story continues  below video.

King says he believes the delay is being made to buy the IRS time to redact potentially damning information.

"It's chutzpah on their part to think that they can look Congress in the eye under subpoena and deny complying with the subpoena and say that it would be years," King said. "It looks to me like they're going through every one of these emails, probably with a team, passing it on down the line, examining the things that they think would embarrass them, the things they don't want Congress to know, and maybe the things that implicate them and redacting them in such a way. That's what takes so long."

King said he has seen similar dishonesty from congressional Democrats in President Obama's multiple deadline extensions for individuals to sign up for healthcare through the Affordable Care Act and in requests from Democrats to halt the Republican investigation into the Benghazi scandal.

"Now to hear the Democrats say 'stop the investigation,' that must say that they are really uneasy about the results that we might get if we continue," King said.
