Mitt Romney’s campaign is preparing to launch a tour of key swing states ahead of the Aug. 27 Republican National Convention, fueling speculation about his running mate with stops in Florida (Marco Rubio) and Ohio (Rob Portman) among others, according to CNN.

Republicans aware of the plans told CNN the swing-state blitz has “all the trappings of a vice presidential rollout tour.”

In the coming days, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee will make appearances and attend fundraisers in Colorado, Nevada and Indiana, with stops in Ohio next week.

The following week, CNN reported, Romney will ramp up his campaign operation with a four-day bus tour, with prominent Republican officials joining him at each stop.

On Aug. 11, Romney tentatively will visit the Washington, D.C., metro area; Richmond; and Norfolk before heading to North Carolina Aug. 12, CNN reported. Romney will stop in Jacksonville, Orlando and Miami on Aug. 13 before heading to Ohio.

"Sounds like VP Week," a Republican, who did not want to be identified revealing campaign plans, told CNN. “Hitting the big markets in the big states. It just makes sense.”
