Romney Victory Committee Attracts $140 Million

Romney Victory, a joint fundraising committee created by his campaign, the Republican National Committee (RNC), and several state parties, garnered $140 million from its inception in early April through June 30, according to government filings.

That compares to the combined $83 million that the Romney campaign and RNC have raised on their own during that period, Politico reports. The joint committee has an advantage because it can accept contributions up to $75,800, while presidential campaigns have a $5,000 limit and party committees a $30,800 limit.

The data indicate that Romney Victory represents the heart of the campaign’s fundraising operation that is far outperforming that of President Barack Obama. Obama’s campaign has a joint fundraising committee of its own with the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

To be sure, for the election cycle as a whole, the Obama campaign, the DNC, and their joint committee lead Romney’s campaign, the RNC, and Romney Victory by about $550 million to about $425 million. But Obama had an advantage over Romney until April, as the Republican faced competition from primary opponents for donors.

In the second quarter, contributors cutting maximum $75,800 checks to Romney Victory included Arizona Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick, former Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon CEO Jamie Coulter of Wichita, Kan., and real estate investor Stanley Black of Beverly Hills, Calif.

The money raised by joint committees gets divided between their component committees. In the second quarter, Romney Victory allocated $53 million to the RNC, $15.8 million to Romney’s campaign committee, and $20,000 each to the state Republican parties in Idaho, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, and Vermont.

Romney Victory finished June with $57.7 million cash on hand.
