Add Republican governors to the list of those who believe presidential candidate Mitt Romney must generate a stronger campaign against President Barack Obama.

They want him to spend more time discussing his background and emphasizing the clash in priorities between himself and Obama, Politico reports.

The governors think Romney should better explain his tenure at Bain Capital, the private equity firm he co-founded, to nullify the president’s criticism of his work there. And they believe he should articulate more thoroughly what he would do as president.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says Romney can learn from Walker’s success last month beating back a recall effort with strong counterattacks against Democrat Tom Barrett. Romney should first show that Obama is desperate and then delineate his own vision for spending and the economy, Walker said.

“It’s not something you just chat about amongst reporters on background, I think he needs to personally say it, I think it needs to be in ads,” Walker told Politico. He lauded Romney’s performance in hammering home the jobs issue, but the former Massachusetts governor “should do a little bit more of that with the budget,” he said.

Romney has plenty to work with, says Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer. “I think we’ll start seeing the activity in the campaign accelerate, and it’s going to get very clear to people just exactly who is doing what to whom,” she told Politico.

“I do believe that he and every one of us ought to be out there extolling his virtues about how successful he has been and beat down all this class warfare. I’m proud to look at someone and see them to be so successful.”
