Rand Paul Takes Another Swipe at Christie

Sen. Rand Paul on Friday took another swipe at Gov. Chris Christie, saying the New Jersey executive's "give-me-my-money-now" plea for Superstorm Sandy cleanup funding not only showed a bad attitude, but was financially unsound.

In an interview on Fox Business Network's "Cavuto," the Kentucky Republican turned up the heat on the latest front in the ongoing war of words with Christie that began in August.

Both men are considered top candidates for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination.

"I think sort of this give-me-my-money-now was not really the best attitude," Paul said, referring to Christie's wrath at House Speaker John Boehner in January for holding up a vote on a Sandy relief package.

"There was a tragedy, people were in need, but the fact that most of the money hasn't been spent a year later argues for maybe the money should have been given out a little bit at a time and maybe that money should have been offset with spending cuts, maybe with money we're spending building things overseas," he said.

Paul said Christie's fury at Boehner was simply wrong-headed.

"I think it was an invalid argument at the time and also a reason why we should spend money prudently, even for good causes," Paul said.

"One of the things I suggested is, don't give all the money at one time. I suggested that Sandy funding be given one year at a time and I actually voted to give Sandy funding but to offset it with spending cuts."

Paul added, "there are ways you can help people and we've had need for help in Kentucky before but I've always advocated if you spend some extra money that you offset it with cuts somewhere else."

Earlier this week, Paul also slammed Christie on Sandy relief, charging his landslide re-election was "in large form, based on that he got a lot of federal money for his state," and that the money was used to run ads featuring the governor.
