Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., says it's President Barack Obama who wants to shut the government down, not congressional Republicans.

Some Republicans in the House and Senate favor voting against any government spending bill that includes allocations for the Affordable Care Act. If a spending bill isn't passed by Sept. 30, the government will shut down.

"Let me suggest to you that the only person that wants to shut down the government is the president of the United States," Price said at a Rotary Club luncheon in Sandy Springs, Ga., according to the Sandy Springs Patch.  "And I say that because I believe that he believes that it endures to his political benefit."

As for Republicans, "we have no desire for the government to close, none whatsoever," Price said. "We do desire that the processes of government work."

Congress and the nation are split between two views, he said. "Should [the solutions to our problems] be with Washington, D.C.? Should we be expanding and stipulating and dictating and regulating, . . . or should they be with the people of the country?" Price said.

"It's confounding to me that we see the wonderful opportunities all of us have had, and we see a federal government that seems to be saying the fundamentals principles that allowed all of us to have all these opportunities no longer hold."
