The Washington Post’s political blog "The Fix" has moved the state of Ohio from its “lean Obama” to “toss up” in a move that gives hope to the Mitt Romney campaign in this must-win state.

However, the Post notes that President Barack Obama still retains a lead in the state with just days left in the campaign.

The Post had moved Ohio to “lean Obama” in September.

“What’s changed since then? Well, let’s look at what hasn’t changed first. The state’s unemployment rate remains below the national average (7 percent in September) and the auto bailout remains popular, as evidenced by Romney’s flailing attempts to muddy the waters on the issue in recent days.

“What has changed is that Romney’s performance in the first debate in early October bumped him back into contention in the state — as it did in virtually every other swing state, as well as nationally — and the natural partisanship of the state started to assert itself.”

The RealClearPolitics polling average has Obama up 2.3 points over Romney in Ohio with most recent polls showing Obama up in the state between two and five points. Of the approximately 30 polls taken in Ohio in the last month, just four have shown Romney with a lead, by one or two points, and four have shown a tie.
