President Barack Obama's re-election team will begin a new campaign scrutinizing Mitt Romney’s four-year term as Massachusetts governor with a video highlighting failed promises using testimony from state Democrats.

The Boston Globe noted that this is a change of tactics for Obama, who has been criticizing Romney’s experience in the private sector running Bain Capital, for the past few weeks.

The ad echoes previous presidential campaigns that attacked opponents on their home court, such as vice president George H.W. Bush’s use of a chartered boat to link the polluted Boston Harbor to his 1988 rival, then-Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis.

The campaign states that Romney raised state taxes, increased state debt, and that Massachusetts wound up 47th out of 50 states in job creation during his term as governor. The campaign announcement says "Mitt Romney claims his experience as a corporate buyout specialist will bring positive economic results for the nation. He made the same economic promises when he ran for governor of Massachusetts that he makes today — more jobs, less debt, and smaller government. Once in office, he broke all those promises and more."

The Romney campaign responded by announcing, "This is another desperate attack from President Obama because he has no positive record to run on. Mitt Romney created more jobs in the state of Massachusetts than President Obama has for the entire nation. President Obama has failed to meet his own goal of 6 percent unemployment and has a net negative record on job creation. We're happy to compare the 4.7 percent unemployment rate Mitt Romney was able to accomplish. If President Obama had even half the job creation record of Mitt Romney, then he would be running on it."
