Rocker Ted Nugent is promising to "raise as much hell" as he can while taking on an official role in former Texas state Rep. Sid Miller's bid for state agriculture commissioner.

Nugent has been involved in several Republican political campaigns, including stumping for Texas Gov. Rick Perry, as well as for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's presidential run, but told the Texas Tribune that this is the first time he's ever had an official role or title in a campaign.

"I believe in guys who stand by the Constitution," the outspoken foe of President Barack Obama and a vocal conservative, told the website Tuesday. "I believe in guys who represent 'we the people' and common sense."

Nugent normally is more interested in national or higher-profile statewide races, but said he's interested in the agricultural commissioner's race because "I grow crops and I raise wildlife. I've been an ag guy since I was a kid."

Miller is known in Texas for authoring a bill in 2011 that requires doctors to perform sonograms before they do abortions. He's also pushed for allowing hunters to shoot feral hogs from the sky in hopes of controlling the invasive animals that plague farmers and ranchers.

The former lawmaker only joined the race for agriculture commissioner last week, and is expected to compete against several other candidates for the spot, including Uvalde Mayor J. Allen Carnes and Austin attorney Eric Opiela.

Nugent, known as The Motor City Madman, was born in Michigan and still has a home there. He also has a ranch outside of Waco, Texas. He said on Tuesday that several people suggested he get involved, and that he has some specific on-the job duties.

"I do media every day, and I’ll raise as much hell as I can," the outspoken rock star said.
