A celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of former President Richard Nixon in Washington, D.C., Wednesday night brought warm accolades from his friends, colleagues, and family.
“It was my privilege to have been permitted to work with him,” said Nixon’s Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Politico reports
. He said he saw the president reject the advice of a majority of his advisers at times, making decisions “certainly in the face of enormous media opposition.”
Pat Buchanan, a special assistant to Nixon in his presidency, said, “Again and again, he came back from woundings. He came back from defeats.”
Nixon’s daughter Julie Nixon Eisenhower showed true paternal loyalty. “He was the best father in the world,” she said. “He loved this country. And he made us proud.”
