Moderate Senate Republicans are pushing for changes in the new healthcare bill before they will support the party in a key procedural vote, The Hill reports.

So far, the senators, from states where Medicaid enrollment was expanded under Obamacare, are not giving into pressure from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to back the bill, according to the website.

They want to know how $70 billion in money to help lower-income people purchase insurance will be spent, the website reported, and they also want a change in the formula for indexing Medicaid to inflation.

Five GOP senators — Dean Heller of Nevada, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Rob Portman of Ohio, Shelly Moore Capito of West Virginia and Joe Hoeven of North Dakota — met with McConnell on Thursday.

Following the meeting, Hoeven said he was uncertain whether the bill has enough money for states, The Hill reported.

"We need to see what amount we'd have now with the increase in the long-term fund and then we can determine from there what we need," he said.

Meanwhile, CNN reported McConnell is trying to pick up any votes he can from the GOP's moderate wing.

"If he can't do this, the bill is as good as dead," CNN's M.J. Lee, Lauren Fox and Ted Barrett wrote in an article for the news network's website.

Moderates, particularly those in Medicaid expansion states, continue to have serious concerns about the bill, CNN noted.

They remain troubled about how quickly Medicaid expansion would be phased out under the bill, the news network reported.

They also are worried about how to keep the cuts to the program ($772 billion over 10 years), CNN said.

And the news network said with at least two other Republican senators ready to cast no votes on a motion to proceed with the bill, McConnell is potentially one senator away from the bill going down in defeat.
