Michelle Obama asked Democratic donors at a Los Angles fundraiser to "write a big fat check" to help the party win seats in the November midterm elections.

"There is something all of you can do right now, today, to make a difference. You can write a check, do you hear me?" the first lady told guests attending a party Wednesday at the home of "Everybody Loves Raymond" creator Phil Rosenthal and wife Monica Horan, reports the Huffington Post.

"I'm serious, write a big fat check. Write the biggest check you can possibly write," she added.

The first lady reminded guests at the fundraiser — donors had to pay at least $1,000 to attend and could pay as much as $32,400 to meet her in a more intimate gathering — that the GOP has to win just six seats to take back the Senate.

"What I want all of you to think about for just a minute is what could happen if we lose those six seats," she said, reportedly pointing to a possible repeal of Obamacare, the banning of same-sex marriage and the end of unemployment insurance.

"That's just the beginning. Thirty-seven governors' seats are up for grabs, nearly three-quarters of our state houses," Obama continued.

"So, starting right now, today, we need to be as passionate and as hungry as we were in 2008 and 2012. In fact, we need to be even more passionate and more hungry, because these races will be even harder and even closer than those presidential elections."

Among those attending the event were Barbra Streisand and husband James Brolin, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, actress Doris Roberts, Tim Robbins, Paul Reiser and his family, Tennis Channel head Ken Solomon, and former CBS Entertainment executive John Matoian, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

The fundraiser, the start of a three-day tour of California, brought in nearly $700,000 for the Democratic National Committee, according to the Reporter.
