If he is interested in sharing the Republican presidential ticket with presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell is trying hard not to let on.

McDonnell said Thursday morning during a radio interview that it is “flattering to be mentioned” as Romney’s possible vice presidential running mate,” according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. But he added: “I’m not looking for it, asking for it, expecting it.”

Besides, McDonnell said, “My plate is full. When you’ve got the same job held by Thomas Jefferson it doesn’t get much better than that.”

Still, the governor is often mentioned at the top of the list of Romney ticket partners, along with Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. McDonnell said both would be good picks for the job.

Despite playing down his own chances of getting a call from Romney, the governor’s political action committee has begun running ads playing up his accomplishments during his three years in office.

The Times-Dispatch said some political observers view the ads as “an indirect appeal” to GOP decision-makers who could help influence Romney’s choice.
