Liberal leaders say that efforts by President Obama and Vice President Biden to drive left-leaning voters to the polls through tough love won’t work, The Hill reports. Obama and Biden recently have criticized liberals for their lack of enthusiasm for next month’s elections.

obama biden campaign“Hectoring your supporters doesn't work, and it never has,” says Jane Hamsher, founder of the blog FireDogLake.com. “And anyone with as much campaign experience as Obama and Biden knows that, which is why you never saw them do it in their own races.”

Adam Green, co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, says Obama himself is the reason why liberals aren’t enthusiastic.

“The 20-year-old kid who voted for Barack Obama and then saw this White House cut backroom deals with special interests instead of truly fighting for big change like the public option doesn't need a public shaming,” he said.
