GOP strategist Karl Rove doesn't put any credence in reports that President Barack Obama might throw his support to Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren over his former secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Author Ed Klein wrote in the New York Post Sunday that Obama worries Clinton isn't far left enough and might undo many of his policies. Klein also notes in his new book "Blood Feud" that the Clintons and Obamas don't like each other.

But Rove said Monday on Fox News Channel's "The Kelly File" that he believes the story was planted in order to move Clinton more to the left before the 2016 race.

"The hard left is all wired up about income inequality, and they love Elizabeth Warren, who is a populist, who's attacked wealth and Wall Street," Rove said.

He also noted that two pro-Clinton super PACs, Priorities USA Action and Ready for Hillary, are run by Obama supporters.

"I don't think key people from Obama's most recent campaign would be flowing in to things that are strongly for Hillary unless they'd gotten a green light from the White House it was permissible, Rove said.

Warren has repeatedly denied she will run for president in 2016.
