Scarborough: Clinton May Have Won If Media Followed Michael Moore's Lead

Hillary Clinton "may have won" the election had the nation's media followed the lead of documentary filmmaker Michael Moore and made efforts to connect with Donald Trump's supporters, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough said Thursday.

"Michael Moore, talking to Donald Trump's supporters, having a conversation with them, and understanding them and explaining why they shouldn't vote for Donald Trump, was an extraordinary exercise," Scarborough said on his "Morning Joe" program, during a discussion of the national media's failings in covering the eventual president-elect.

Scarborough looked back to June 2015, when Moore said, "'The more you mock him, the stronger you make him,'" and the show host said Moore, a liberal filmmaker and supporter of first Bernie Sanders and then Clinton, had predicted Trump would win.

"This shows there's a new political order," said Scarborough, admitting that he and Moore, the maker of "Michael Moore in TrumpLand," have often been at each other's throats.

"Michael Moore got it better than anybody else this entire campaign," said Scarborough. "He did something extraordinary. He did something that we all need to do as Americans who live more and more in our clusters. We live around people who think like us, vote like us, worship like us."

Scarborough made the comments while calling out The Washington Post and The New York Times for their support of Clinton over Trump, saying they both failed to see and report what was happening throughout the country.

On Wednesday, after Trump's win, Moore posted an opinion piece on AlterNet, giving a 5-point "to do" list for Democrats now that their candidate has lost the presidency.

In his piece, Moore lambasted the Democratic Party for "failing us miserably," and called for voters to "fire" pundits, pollsters and anyone who would acknowledge what was going on.

"Those same bloviators will now tell us we must 'heal the divide' and 'come together,'" Moore said.

But he also called for everyone to quit saying they were "stunned and shocked."

"What you mean to say is that you were in a bubble and weren't paying attention to your fellow Americans and their despair," Moore wrote, saying years of neglect from both parties fed Trump's growth.

"Trump's victory is no surprise," Moore said. "He was never a joke. Treating him as one only strengthened him. He is both a creature and a creation of the media and the media will never own that."
