In a pep talk to House Democrats, Vice President Joe Biden said they should feel optimistic about the midterm elections in November because the American people are on their side.

"For the first time in my career, on every major issue, the American people agree with the Democratic party," Biden said while speaking at the House Democrats' annual retreat at the Hyatt Regency on Maryland's Eastern Shore, BuzzFeed reports.

"Even with all the difficulties you're now facing with the [Affordable Care Act], 55 percent of the American people don't want to see it repealed," he added, according to The Washington Times.

"They are with us," Biden said. "Let's go out and make every single effort not just to defend, but to aggressively push our agenda. I'm optimistic about America's prospects, and I'm optimistic about our prospects. So keep your eye on the ball."

The vice president said that while "November is three political lifetimes" away,  he "can't imagine our prospects being viewed by the press and everyone else as being a whole hell of a lot brighter by the time we turn to September than now."

Biden also went after the GOP for being so divided that they had to offer "three or four" responses to the president's State of the Union address.

"There isn't a Republican Party," the vice president said. "I wish there was a Republican Party. I wish there was one person you could sit across the table from and make a deal."
