Jindal Calls on Democrats to Drop McAuliffe as Governor Candidate

Republican Governors Association chairman Bobby Jindal says Democrats should drop Terry McAuliffe as their gubernatorial candidate in Virginia over an SEC probe of a company once run by McAuliffe.

Speaking at a press conference at the National Governors Association meeting in Milwaukee on Sunday, Jindal said McAuliffe had disqualified himself for the position. He called on Democratic Governors Association chairman Peter Shumlin to find another candidate, Politico reports.

An electric car company, GreenTech, which McAuliffe once led, is currently under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission for the role it played in soliciting foreign investors, according to The Washington Post. A McAuliffe spokesman told Politico that his boss left the company in December and had no knowledge of the investigation.

The Post report said the SEC is also looking into GreenTech sister company, Gulf Coast Funds Management, run by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s brother, Tony Rodham. McCauliff has run both Bill and Hillary Clinton's presidential campaigns and served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

Jindal, governor of Louisiana, said, "This scam’s so bad it would even embarrass politicians in Louisiana."

Jindal unveiled an ad by the RGA saying McAuliffe shouldn't be trusted, adding that his attacks on Republican nominee Ken Cuccinelli are intended to “shift attention away from the news about this federal investigation … a possible ‘visa-for-sale scheme,’ with the Chinese financing McAuliffe’s own business.”
