Bob Vander Plaats, a leading conservative in Iowa, is mulling a run for U.S. Senate, BuzzFeed reports.

Vander Plaats is the CEO of The Family Leader, a pro-family organization, and a big name in Iowa state politics.

“He would consider looking at it in the middle of October, and decide by the end of the year,” Vander Plaats spokesman Dave Barnett told BuzzFeed.

Vander Plaats ran for Iowa governor in 2002, 2006 and 2010 and was U.S. Rep. Jim Nussle's running mate for governor in 2006.

In addition to playing a role in Mike Huckabee's 2008 win in Iowa, Vander Plaats also led a successful ouster of state supreme court justices who had voted to overturn Iowa's Defense of Marriage Act.
