Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain believes that President Barack Obama deserves more punishment than denial of a second term. He contends that the president’s policies on the Defense of Marriage Act and healthcare represent impeachable offenses, Politico reports.

In a conference call with bloggers Tuesday, Cain said impeachment of Obama “would be a great thing to do. But because the Senate is controlled by Democrats, we would never be able to get the Senate to take up that action. They simply don’t care what the American public thinks.”

Ordering the Justice Department not to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act and implementing a healthcare law with a mandate for individual insurance merit impeachment for Obama, Cain said.

“There are a number of things where a case could be made in order to impeach him, but because Republicans do not control the United States Senate, they would never allow it to get off the ground," Cain said.
