Haley Set to Headline Sanford Fundraiser

Tuesday, 30 Apr 2013 01:49 PM

By Courtney Coren

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will headline a Charleston fundraiser Wednesday night for former Gov. Mark Sanford and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is expected to endorse his run for Congress as early as Tuesday, according to CNN.

The fundraiser, first reported by GOPwrite.com, is expected to bring in much needed money for the Republican Sanford, who finds himself trailing Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch by 9 points overall, according to Public Policy Polling.

The support of Haley is also aimed at narrowing a 20 point lead in support from women that Colbert Busch also has over Sanford in the special election scheduled for May 7 to replace former Rep. Tim Scott, who was appointed to the U.S. Senate by Haley late last year after former GOP Sen. Jim DeMint resigned to take over the Heritage Foundation.

While Paul has no plans to campaign with Sanford, CNN reported that his political organization would help fund the South Carolina Republican Party’s get-out-the-vote effort on behalf of Sanford.
