You can add former Vice President Al Gore’s name to the roster of Democrats lashing out at Congress in the wake of the government shutdown.

"Congress is pathetic right now. There are some awful good people in Congress trapped in a bad system," Gore told the new TV network Pivot.

Story continues below video.

"The truth is our democracy has been hacked. Big money now calls the shots. That may sound like a radical statement, but less and less to people who have been paying attention to what’s been going on there."

He drew a connection between opposition to a debt ceiling increase and questions about global warming.

"Some of the same people who . . . said it would be perfectly fine for the United States to default on its debt . . . have been saying that the laws of physics don’t apply and that . . . pollution does not cause global warming," Gore said.

These people don’t believe that "Mother Nature is sending us a signal with all of these extreme weather catastrophes that the scientists are telling us are definitely connected to the climate crisis."
