Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says he’s confident Republicans will retain the Senate seat being vacated by his fellow Georgian Saxby Chambliss, but insists he has no plans to run for the seat himself.

“[My wife] Callista and I have discussed it and I have a role to play developing ideas and composing new solutions,” he tells Newsmax TV.

Story continues below the video.

“She has two New York Times Bestselling children’s books. I’m working on a new book called ‘A Better American Future.’ We do documentaries together. At gingrichproductions.com, we have all sorts of things. So we’re very excited and very happy with what we’re doing and we have a particular role to play as a center of ideas and solutions, and that’s our contribution to being better citizens.

“But we have some great potential members. Congressman Tom Price, Congressman Jack Kingston, there are a number of other people who will be terrific candidates if they decide to run. I’m confident we’ll keep the seat in the Republican Party, as Saxby Chambliss assures. He served the country very, very ably both in the House and in the Senate and we will find a replacement that will continue a tradition of solid conservatism from Georgia.”
