Cohn: Trump Tax Plan Means More Money for Americans

President Donald Trump's tax cut plan, if approved, will mean that average Americans will keep more of their hard-earned wages, despite critics' complaints the proposal will mean higher taxes for the middle and upper middle class, National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn said Thursday.

"We've given the Congress a broad outline to work with," Cohn told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."

"The president has been very cooperative in saying look, 'here is my broad outline. Congress, go write a tax plan that delivers middle income hard working Americans a tax cut."

Cohn said that both he and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin have made themselves available to work with Congress, and he's sure they can work with lawmakers to "do what the president has outlined."

Meanwhile, Trump has made it clear that achieving a 20 percent corporate tax rate is an important litmus test.

"We've spent a lot of time talking to the president about that," said Cohn. "We've looked at worldwide tax rates. We've looked at the competitive landscape . . . 20 percent is the number that makes us competitive with the rest of the world."

Cohn said it is important for Congress to reach an agreement by the end of the year.
