President Donald Trump's approval rating is on the rise and now stands at 43 percent compared to the 39 percent he received last month, a new Politico/Morning Consult poll reveals.

Here are the highlights from the poll:

  • 43 percent of all those polled approve of the job Trump is doing as president, while 52 percent do not.
  • 81 percent of Republicans approve of the way Trump has handled the presidency, compared to 17 percent who do not.
  • 12 percent of Democrats approve of the job Trump is doing as president, while 84 percent disapprove.
  • 40 percent of independents approve of the way Trump has handled the presidency, while 52 percent do not.

Trump's ratings suffered following his controversial comments after violent protests in Charlottesville, Virginia, Politico noted.

"Trump's post-Charlottesville plunge proved to be short-lived, and his approval has stabilized," said Morning Consult Co-Founder and Chief Research Officer Kyle Dropp. "A key driver of this movement appears to be independents. Immediately after Charlottesville, 35 percent of independent voters approved of Trump, and 58 percent disapproved. In this latest poll, that has risen to 40 percent approval and 52 percent disapproval."

The president is earning praise for his responses to hurricanes Harvey and Irma, Politico pointed out. And his negotiations with Democratic congressional leaders may have helped, as well.

Here is how the rest of the poll breaks down:

  • 75 percent believe Trump working with Democratic leaders is a good thing, compared to 9 percent who disagree.
  • 43 percent say the Republican Party is too conservative, 25 percent say it is "about right" and 14 percent say it is too liberal.
  • 43 percent say the Democratic Party is too liberal, 29 percent say it is "about right" and 11 percent say it is too conservative.

The poll, conducted Sept. 14-17, surveyed 1,994 voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
