If Texas goes Democratic, the state is in big trouble, according to a new web video ad from homestate Republican Sen. John Cornyn.

Cornyn is up for re-election next year and doesn't yet face any major opposition. However Texas' junior GOP Sen. Ted Cruz has declined to endorse him.

Story continues below video.

The ad presents a scenario in which Democrats take control of the state, a declared plan of the party.

"The Texas miracle is over as more people left the state than ever before," a mock newscaster says in the video. "Experts say skyrocketing taxes and a lack of energy jobs due to new environmental regulations are partly to blame."

Cornyn also appears in the ad.

"President Obama and his liberal allies want to turn Texas blue," he says. "It means higher taxes, higher unemployment and a government drowning in debt."

A Cornyn aide said the ad was placed on the Internet last month in anticipation of a run for governor by Democratic State Sen. Wendy Davis.
