Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., raised some eyebrows when he exchanged tweets with a young woman Tuesday during the State of the Union address.
On Thursday, he revealed her identity: a secret daughter.
In a private press conference held Thursday in his office with CBS and NBC, Cohen told reporters the woman who identified herself on twitter as Victoria Brink was his daughter, whose existence he first discovered three years ago.
“I Googled her mother, found out she had a child and the math looked pretty accurate,” Cohen, who is single, told NBC News.

“The mom told me we had a lot of catching up to do.”
Cohen’s tweeting during President Obama’s SOTU speech caused concern among his fellow Democrats, but the Tennessee congressman said he was too excited to contain himself.
“When she let me know she was watching the State of the Union address I was thrilled that she wanted Steve Cohen to be part of her. I had such joy, that I couldn’t hold back from tweeting her,” Cohen told NBC news
Cohen’s tweets to Brink, which were deleted Tuesday, were archived, however.
His comments came under scrutiny when the young college student let him know that she noticed him at the State of the Union. Cohen tweeted back to the young woman “nice to know you were watchin SOTU.Happy Valentines beautiful girl. ilu.”
Cohen made the admission two days after a spokesman said Brink was the daughter of the congressman's friend.
