Romney Donates Maximum to Christie Re-election Campaign

Mitt Romney wants to see Chris Christie re-elected and the former Republican presidential candidate has given the maximum contribution possible — $3,800 — to the New Jersey governor’s campaign, a source familiar with the donation said, according to Politico.

Romney’s supporters and aides were furious at Christie for embracing and hailing President Barack Obama’s response to Hurricane Sandy before the election, but the former Massachusetts governor has always maintained that Christie was simply doing what he had to do as head of superstorm-devastated New Jersey.

In addition, Eric Cantor, R-Va., is also jumping on the Christie bandwagon, the source told Politico.

The House majority leader will be among those taking part in a Christie fundraiser in Virginia Thursday night, hosted by Gov. Bob McDonnell.

The involvement of Romney and Cantor comes at a time when Christie’s name is in the headlines for something that isn’t going to happen: The American Conservative Union has decided to snub the Republican governor, who was not invited to speak at next month’s Conservative Political Action Conference.
