Romney to Join Christie at Boston Fundraiser

Saturday, 22 Feb 2014 06:18 PM

Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will appear together at a fundraiser for the Republican Governors Association on Thursday in Boston.

Christie's is the association's chairman. Romney, who was chairman in 2006, will speak at a dinner and later meet with Christie and donors, The Washington Post reports.

Mike DuHaime, a Christie aide, and Gail Gitcho, a spokeswoman for the governors association, confirmed to Politico that Romney would be attending next week's private fundraiser.

The former Massachusetts governor apparently is signaling his support for Christie in light of the Bridge-gate scandal that is engulfing his administration. The governor, who is considered a possible GOP presidential candidate in 2016, also lauded President Barack Obama for his support during Hurricane Sandy just days before the 2012 presidential election.

"They've stayed close since the election," Ron Kaufman, a former Romney adviser, told the Post on Saturday. "Governor Christie was very good to Governor Romney during the presidential election, and Governor Romney was one of the first contributors to Governor Christie's reelection campaign.

"This will be a time for friends to come together and support all Republican governors," Kaufman said.

Christie also will be raising funds for the association in Utah, Georgia, Connecticut, and Michigan, Politico reports.
